Myanmar Vs Thailand [AFC Women's U16]

Bangkok | Dec 12, 2010 - Last Sunday, I had a chance to watch the football match between Myanmar and Thailand at the Rajamangala Stadium. It was the AFC U16 Women's Championship qualifiers. Our Myanmar girls needed only 1 point to go through since they had won the three previous matches and were group leaders. We mistakenly thought that Myanmar needed only one point or losing to Thailand without conceding no more than 7 goals because Myanmar scored 10 and conceded none prior to that game.

Myanmar girls fought hard but Thai girls won due to the fact that they are the host and the referee certainly had preference over them. Still, we thought we qualified because the score was 2-1. For the girls, they just didn't want to lose and were very saddened after the game. And we cheered up the girls just to lighten the mood.

The bad news came in the other morning. I thought Myanmar qualified but according to the news, they didn't. The AFC rule is that if 2 teams have the same points, the team with the better head to head record go through. So, Thailand qualified although their goal difference within the group were lower than Myanmar. It was very sad for the girls because they tried so hard. Anyway, we had fun and let them know we are very proud of them.

I cut the 42 minutes footage into 11 minutes and 30 secs. I hope this video reflects our girls effort and the Myanmar crowd's passion.
